Lost Coast Photos
A work in progress gallery of photos from the north coast

I was lucky to get a place to stay from a friend in Petrolia California this April. She has a house there that she rents out and it is beautiful, here is a link to her site Petrolia Palms.

From there I was able to access the remote Lost Coast trailhead, the Mattole river delta and have the opportunity to ride the Wildcat up to Ferndale.

Here is a work in progress gallery of some of the images that I captured on the trip.

The Return of Virtual North Beach
A photo walk I made of San Franciscos North Beach

In 1996 digital photography was still not there...

But I couldnt resist when a friend loaned me his camera. I made a few hundred pictures over the course of a day in which I carefully (sortof) walked North Beach. Then I took the pics home and wrote a map generator on mac that allowed me to build a matrix of image map linked n-way nodes.

Try it out! wave your mouse around the edges of the pictures to see which directions you can go... It is like an early Dungeons and Dragons game maze.

Photographing and Hiking in Sonora Pass
My TOPO .tpo map of the Sonora Pass with Hiking routes and Trail Head Directions

Last year I started using the National Geographic TOPO program and while I found it to be a poorly written piece of software it is usable. This map requires the California State version of the software and version 3 or greater.

I have been putting my notes, trail and trail head info into a map of the pass and you might enjoy looking at it if your are a TOPO user and are thinking of going hiking or photographing in that area.

I have included a little commentary on each hike and will revisit this document as the summer wears on...

We go to Camp Blue at the Lair for our base camp. This is is the UC Berkeley Alumni Association camp near Pinecrest Lake.

Web Site by Cooksey-Talbott Studio
Fine art photography, free desktops and free e-cards of California by master nature photographer Cooksey-Talbott. Hundreds of beautiful photographs are displayed for sale online as raw or ready to hang images.

Cooksey-Talbott Gallery is an online e-commerce gallery of nature photographs. The collection includes pictures of the High Sierra, Ansel Adams Wilderness, Yosemite, Trinity Alps, Sonora Pass, Santa Barbara Hills, East Bay Hills and Garin Park as well as hundreds of different waterfalls. Many of the images are from medium and large format film taken with the Mamiya RB-67 and a variety of 4x5 view cameras. Some of the more recent work is shot with a Nikon D200. We offer archival quality prints in a wide variety of sizes and on different media. We print on a variety of heavy art papers and canvas using an Epson 9600 printer with UltraChrome Photo Black Pigmented inks.

Ralph Cooksey-Talbott Thomas has been working as a photographer since 1972 when he moved to California from Michigan. During the 1970’s he studied under Ansel Adams in Yosemite. Ansel published one of his photographs in the portfolio section of his book "Polaroid Technique Manual." Ansel and Orah Moore, another of Ansel’s students, suggested that he shorten his name to Cooksey-Talbott, and that is the name he has worked under since. Cooksey also studied at the San Francisco Art Institute and the San Francisco Academy of Art. He has lectured in photography at the U.C. Berkeley Extension, Studio One in Oakland and at Santa Barbara City College.
