North Peak Sunrise

North peak towers over the end of the Hoover Wildernesses 20 lakes basin like a stone monolith. When the first rays of light for the day strike its face it comes alive with a magical luminosity.

The peak is surrounded by a wasteland of fractured granite erratics, uplifted sedimentary rock and exfoliating domes that provide a horizontal counterpoint to its looming vertical majesty.

This is a 40 megapixel image made from a number of Nikon D200 frames.
