High Sierra Panoramas and Vertoramas

All of the images in this gallery are made by taking a series of exposures and the combining them in the computer to create a wide field rendition of our world.

The rpocess does this with very minimal distortion and with, in many cases, infinet depth of field...

Lake Tenaya's Stone Beach

In Yosemites Tuolumne high country is this shining mountain lake.

Because the road goes directly right past it a lot of folks stop and visit the beaches.

This was one of those days when every thing was sterling. Nice clouds and crystal clear air.

This is a 124 megapixel inage made from a number of frames of D200 data.

Trona Sunrise

After a fairly well sleepless night I awoke before dawn to silence.

Camping at the foot of this 40 foot formation was like spending an evening at the local hurricane factory. Strong winds, blowing sand and debris rattled the tent all night long and stopped right before dawn.

As the sun cut through the eastern ridgeline it highlighted this formation and the sparse reddish vegetation that clings precariously to the barren soil.

Trona Pinnacles

After an evening of being lulled to sleep by a 40 mile an  hour windstorm the dawn broke clear and still.

What a relief. I am not sure if I even slept! The tent was snapping loudly and pushing hard on one side and then the other. There was no shelter from the winds other then the SUV which we put directly upwind... It didn't help.

I had tried to catch this part of the formation in the sunset but the light went away mid-way through the exposure sequence.

Since I was up before dawn I was able to get in a good position to capture the first light as it delicately brushed the landscape.

Zabriski Point BW

The view of these ridges from the top is just phenomenal!

The badlands spread out like giant velvet fingers from the ridgelines. The rich texture of these barren hills and their earth tone palette creates a nice warm feeling.

I had a nice walk around on the casual trails coming from the point and got a couple of interesting views.

Needless to say as I walked along the ridges I could feel the heat rising out of the canyons.

The best part of my walk here was that the trails were in the shade!
