High Sierra Panoramas and Vertoramas

All of the images in this gallery are made by taking a series of exposures and the combining them in the computer to create a wide field rendition of our world.

The rpocess does this with very minimal distortion and with, in many cases, infinet depth of field...

Olmstead Point Panorama

This was shortly after the lightening fires of summer 2007 and the smoke from the wildfires was creeping up into the sierra...

This created a wonderful rosy cast to the sunset at Olmstead point when we stopped on our way over the Sierra while going to minerets.

Minarets Falls

This is one tiny part of Minerets Falls...

This was a very dry year so it was a mere shadow of its usual multiple self. This waterfall is a wide series of falls with many different cascades of water from Minerets Creek.

Minarets Sunset

My daughter Mia and I had hiked up to the base of the leftmost Mineret. We enjoyed the snow and caught the moonrise.

Little did I know that the main event was still in store. As we walked around the lake Mia calledout that I should look behind us...

Lo an behold the sun had just started touching the top of Clyde Mineret and it was creating a spectacular effect.

I set up and got to shoot for a couple of minutes before the effect vanished. I got this nice multiframe panorama of the sunset, went back to the camp and had a nice double ration.

Life was good that day!

Artist's Drive Hills

I went down from the car and started walking across a seemingly endless plain. Heat waves shimmered in the distance which seemed close at first receeded...

Having carried this hulking Canon telephoto lens I thought it would bring the hills closer. No salt. But wow the colors. It really didn't matter how close I was because the scene was fairly indelible.
