California Hill Country

This is a gallery of my rectangualr and square images of the rolling hills of Northern California.

I have not filled out sizes for the images so they have one size offered for sale. They are available in a variety of sizes so if you would like something that is not offered please give me a call at 510-742-0548 11-6 PST.

Castle Rock Boulder

This was another S3 photowalk. What an amazing place.

It was on the top of the coastal miuntains and filled with the type of rocky concretions that you typically find at the beach...

I looked it up when I got home and wow. Uplift! It had been at the beach until some small mountain building event pushed it up a thousand and some feet...

Castle Rock Oak

The afternoon light at Castle Rock is incisive. Hot beams of sunlight shining through a moderate tree cover.

The green of the trees is truly luminous and activtes the green of the moss on many of the rocks.

You could nearly expect some magical character to come bopping along the path...

Upper Cataracts Canyon

I brought a group of photographers here to enjoy the mossy goodness. I do a Cataracts trip every year in the first quarter.

The canyon was, as usual, steep. But on the flip side it was very green and wet!

Most excellent!

Everyone got some good photos and it was downhill all the way out :)

Western Sycamore at Dry Creek

I really love the western sycamore trees.

They have a very light colored bark and grow in the riparian areas of a landscape. All to often they are nice to look at but get lost in the confusion of the other trees by the watercourse.

In this case the tree has some separation from its surroundings so that it can be savored as a singular entity rather then as a part of a complex tangle of branches...

I found this tree in the Dry Creek end of Garin park in Union City. It is early in the season and the trees have not even developed buds much less leaves.

This is a 25 megapixel image made from several frames of Canon 5D Mark II data shot with the 24-105mm lens.
