High Sierra Panoramas and Vertoramas

All of the images in this gallery are made by taking a series of exposures and the combining them in the computer to create a wide field rendition of our world.

The rpocess does this with very minimal distortion and with, in many cases, infinet depth of field...

Death Valley Dunes

I made it to the dunes at sunset for a few hours of photography and eating windblown sand.

The light was already excellent so we double-timed into the dunes and started taking pictures.

Photography was a difficult process because there was a stiff wind which was lofting the sand into the air. It seemed like most of it was going in my face and hair. The sand that didn't get on me went into every pocket and compartment of my camera pack.

The patterns and shapes created by the sand and light were abundant and I got several very nice high resolution photographs. This was one of those cases where it would be hard not to come away with a beautiful image.

This is a 61 megapixel image made from a number of frames of data shot with the Canon 5D Mark II.

Death Valley Hardpan

In the lowest parts of the dunes are areas of cracked mud flat this is the ancient basis of the formation.

The mud has a strong cracked and caked texture with a rich yellow patina. This underlayment has been further eroded and polished by the motion of the sand and tourists.

I was definitely enthusiastic about the texture and looked at several spots before I picked this one. Shortly after the sun had set I shot some of it in the soft light of twilight...

This is an extremely high resolution image, every grain of sand is tack sharp!

The free desktop shows a little bit of the detail present in the original as a background for the vertorama.

This is a 110 megapixel image made from a number of frames of data from a Canon 5D Mark II.

Ebbets Pass Reservoir

We made it up to the top of Ebbets Pass the day that it opened and got there as the plows cleared the last of the snow.

At the top of the pass is a reservoir that was partially frozen. I walked around the shore for a way and found this beautiful blue scene...

Green Lake Flowers

A brilliant clump of flowers grows by Green Lake in the Hoover Wilderness. We learned that the weather passes through that area quickly making for some exciting lighting.

Good place to have a rain suit :)

This is a 30 megapixel image made from a number of frames of Nikon D-200 data.
